Mary Poppins is a musical film which was produced in 1964 by walt Disney. It is based on the book series known as “Mary Poppins” written by P.L Travers. On the November 16^th 2006 a Broadway production of this musical appeared at the New Amsterdam Theatre after a long series of previews from October 14. Origin

Mary Poppins is a title character drawn from the series of children's books which were written by P. L. Travers. Mary Poppins series, which lasted from the year 1934 to year 1988, Mary Shepard was throughout the illustrator and also performed as a second author. The book’s focus is on a magical English nanny, which is Mary Poppins. She is drafted from the east wind to Number Seventeen Cherry Tree Lane, in London, and then eventually into the Banks' household to care for her children. Encounters withshopkeepers, chimney sweeps and various other adventures follow until Mary Poppins abruptly leaves. A total of eight books cover the adventures that take place over time. However, only the first three books cover Mary Poppins arriving and leaving. The later five books only recount previously unspoken adventures from her unusual three visits. Film

The books were reformed in 1964 into a musical Disney film starring Dick Van Dyke and Julie Andrews. Then in 2004, a stage musical adaptation by Disney Theatrical was produced in the West End theatre. In 2006 the stage musical was transferred to Broadway. It is still running there to this day, having sold-out crowds. It has been highly successful just like the classic 1964 film was.
